Advanced: Includes fiddle tunes and swing tunes which consist mostly of extended eighth note passages, and many tunes in keys other than G with no capo. Extended single string style is used in some if necessary to render the melody or for a “hot lick” effect. A few have entire solos in melodic then again in single string style. Mixing of styles is more prevalent… many have Scruggs, melodic and single string style within the same arrangement. Many “post-Scruggs” rolls are used, and more frequent mixing of right-hand sequences within the measure. Occasionally position changes are performed between consecutive eighth notes – no quarter note to allow more time to change positions. Quicker chord changes and passages in which chords change every two beats. Breakdowns and other tunes which are commonly played at fast tempos are included. Tunes with more exotic chord progressions are featured. Some popular swing, jazz and popular and a couple of classical pieces are included. More slow tempo and more upper-neck arrangements are available, often using triplets to fill the void between melody notes on slow songs. The chord – melody approach common in classical and jazz is used to render many slow songs: the melody is played on the first string vertically on the fretboard, with harmony notes (chords) pinched or arpeggiated to fill in the spaces between melody notes. Unless otherwise noted, tablature arrangements are in Scruggs style.

Jack has spent fifty years learning to play and teach banjo and in publishing banjo instruction materials. He has acquired the knowledge and ability necessary to plot the most efficient left-hand fingering and right-hand sequencing while still rendering an accurate melody, which has resulted in playable, easily memorized melody-oriented arrangements can be proud to play in any jam session or public performance. Many feature creative and esthetically pleasing variations which can be used to win banjo contests. He has spent hundreds of hours on (expensive) state-of-the-art Finale software creating these clear, legible tablature arrangements.
