Intermediate: Many vocal arrangements first presented in Beginner level are expanded upon, with left hand techniques added and fewer quarter notes. More mixing of rolls and using partial rolls (for example, half of a four-beat forward roll followed by an alternating thumb roll). Upper-neck solos are included for most vocal songs. More frequent left-hand techniques are added to draw attention to melody notes, and bends (chokes) are used occasionally in the upper neck solos. More position changing than Beginner arrangements. Fiddle tunes and a few swing or popular music instrumentals are common, typically in G or in G but capoed to the key of A. Melodic style is used in most fiddle tunes, and some mixing in of single string style if melodic style will not suffice to render a melody phrase. More exotic chord progressions are introduced, and four-note formations including the use of the 2, 3 and 6 minor and seventh chords. A few banjo tunes with chord scales are introduced. There are more more “off-melody” hot licks. A few tunes are presented in alternate tunings, either C tuning, D tuning or G minor tuning. Unless otherwise noted, tablature arrangements are in Scruggs style.

Jack has spent fifty years learning to play and teach banjo and in publishing banjo instruction materials. He has acquired the knowledge and ability necessary to plot the most efficient left-hand fingering and right-hand sequencing while still rendering an accurate melody, which has resulted in playable, easily memorized melody-oriented arrangements can be proud to play in any jam session or public performance. Many feature creative and esthetically pleasing variations which can be used to win banjo contests. He has spent hundreds of hours on (expensive) state-of-the-art Finale software creating these clear, legible tablature arrangements.
